"The Longhorn and the Labrador"

Growing up with labrador retrievers, they hold a special place in my heart. They posess a goofy, family oriented personality, while also having the ability to be extremely thoughtful and even stoic at times. Since moving to Texas, the longhorn has fascinated me. It is beautiful in it's majesty and stoic nature, but also extremely powerful. "The Longhorn and the Labrador" places both animals in the frame together, however, in the composition, I made the intentional choice to make it unclear whether they are in conversation with one another or simply existing parallel to each other. Both beautiful, both powerful in their own right. The Austin downtown emerges behind them and wildflowers blossom beneath their feet. Overall, the painting explores how we can see and appreciate the beauty of the world around us through these amazing creatures.
